Description: “Biometric recognition, or simply biometrics, is the science of establishing the identity of a person based on physical or behavioral attributes. It is a rapidly evolving field with applications ranging from securely accessing one’s computer to gaining entry into a country…” In this short course we describe the fundamentals of Biometrics modalities such as fingerprint, face, and iris; a few other modalities like hand geometry, ear, and gait are presented briefly.
Prerequisite: Basic knowledge in statistical pattern recognition and image processing is assumed. A quick tutorial on statistical pattern recognition is provided during the first lecture.
References: Proceedings of recent international conferences such as IJCB, ICB, BTAS, ICPR, CVPR etc.
Topics: Introduction to Biometric Systems and Statistical Pattern Recognition, Fingerprint Recognition, Face Recognition, Iris Recognition, Additional Biometric Traits
