FAQ – FOREIGN CANDIDATES TO THE MASTER AND DOCTORATE IN CHEMISTRY OF UFPR

1) What are the admission requirements, for foreign students, in the master’s degree?
.
      There are three possibilities for admission of foreign students to the master’s degree in chemistry at UFPR:
.
1.1. In the Regular Selective Process for the Master’s Degree in Chemistry at UFPR, the admission examination occurs twice a year, in February and July, according to the information you can find at: http://www.prppg.ufpr.br/ppgquimica/en/admissao/mestrado/.

.      On this page you will find the list of required documents and the registration and selection procedures.

1.2. For students to be admitted via external selective processes, such as PEC-PG and TWAS, we request the following documents (scanned) before sending the letter of acceptance:
.
I – Copy (front and back) of the certificate or diploma in which the conclusion of the undergraduate course is duly confirmed, or proof of enrollment in the last term of the undergraduate course. This document should be issued by the Academic Registration Unit of the institution of origin.
II – Copy of undergraduate academic records or transcripts of completed programs.
III – Two letters of recommendation issued by professors, researchers or persons of recognized competence in the area of studies of the applicant.
IV – Fully documented Curriculum vitae, prepared according to the general guidelines that are
made available through the following link:

V – Copy of the passport identification sheet or of an official identification document containing an updated photograph of the applicant.
The documents should be scanned directly from the originals in Portuguese, Spanish or English. If issued in one of these languages, there is no need for translation.

1.3. Latin American students can also apply for grants through the PAEC/OAS-GCUB Program, according to information that can be obtained through the links:

2) What are the admission requirements, for foreign students, in the doctorate?
.
There are also three possibilities for admission of foreign students to the PhD course in Chemistry of UFPR:

2.1. Regular Selection Process – the information is available at the link:

2.2. PEC-PG, TWAS and PAEC / OAS-GCUB programs: the procedures are the same as described in items 1.2 and 1.3 above.

3) I am interested in applying for the official scholarship program for foreign students of the Brazilian Government PEC-PG (Student-Postgraduate Agreement), administered by CAPES, CNPq and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Where can I get information about this Program?
.
.      In the case of the master’s degree by the PEC-PG Program, the scholarships are offered by CNPq. For the doctorate, both CAPES and CNPq provide scholarships annually. The launch
of public calls by CNPq usually occurs in June/July of each year, and by CAPES in September.

4) To apply for a PEC-PG or TWAS scholarship, one of the requirements is a letter of acceptance from the Brazilian Higher Education Institution (HEI) at the Masters and/or Doctoral levels recognized by CAPES. How can I obtain this document?

.      First of all, the candidate should write to the to the email cpgquim@ufpr.br, with copy to cpgquimicaufpr@gmail.com, and indicate the line(s) of research in which he/she would like to work, so that, in possession of the documents requested above (item 1.2), we can establish a contact between the applicant and possible research supervisors in the Chemistry Graduate Studies Program.
