Spectrometry and Single-crystal X-Ray Diffraction Laboratory

The single-crystal X-ray diffractometer installed at UFPR is a Bruker D8 Venture equipment granted by the Pro-Equipment Program from CAPES (Coordination of Higher-Education Personnel Improvement). It employs a Kappa four-circle goniometer and two X-ray sources (copper and molybdenum) for data collection. The Mo-K(alpha) radiation source is a water-cooled, sealed tube-type source that operates with a dedicated heat exchanger (chiller). The copper microfocus source, in turn, is cooled by air.

The diffractometer configuration also includes a CMOS (complementary metal oxide semiconductor) shutterless detector and a sample temperature control system for measurements from 90 to 390 K.

                                                     D8 Venture X-ray diffractometer for single-crystal analysis

This Single-Crystal XRD Laboratory was installed in 2013 and has an area of ca 35 square meters. This space is shared with the Electronic Spectroscopy Laboratory, which in turn accommodates two PERKIN ELMER spectrophotometers, namely Lambda 650 (UV-VIS) and Lambda 1050 (UV-VIS-NIR), financed by FINEP/CT-INFRA. These equipments meet the internal demand of the Chemistry Department at UFPR, as well as of several teaching and research institutions in the Southern Region, for analyses in solution, liquid and solid samples, and in films.
