As one of the most traditional universities in Brazil, Universidade Federal do Paraná offers its participants a genuinely educational experience through the Professional Postgraduate Program in Management of Organizations, Leadership, and Decision (PPGOLD).

The ideal place to develop your core competencies to launch your career.

PPGOLG is a master’s program in business administration focused on allying students’ practical experience to its professors’ research expertise and academic production.  PPGOLD is part of the School of Business Administration UFPR, which forms a complete set of business training ranging from the undergraduate degree, through the MBAs, and with two graduate programs in Administration: one academic and the other, a professional: PPGOLD.

The context in which the PPGOLD is inserted justifies its performance since dynamism and industry strength characterize the state of Paraná. Professionals working in our state organizations have longed for a program focused on training in the business area. The PPGOLD emerges as a pioneering and relevant initiative to increase the competitiveness of organizations located in the State of Paraná and have as its mission:

Promote the development of the decision-making process of organizations, especially those located in the State of Paraná, through professional training that involves deepening the technical and human competencies materialized in the excellence of professional performance.

The activities focus and studies carried out at PPGOLD are the development of decision-making capacity at the organizational level. This choice is due to, in the business environment, the decision-making is relevant and must be taken before the action, which will direct the use of tangible and intangible resources, impacting the overall performance of the organization. The organizational decision-making process thus permeates the entire organization. For this reason, the PPGOLD has three lines of research: i) organizational competencies; ii) financial decisions and financial markets; iii) operations and decision systems.

Within the scope of PPGOLD, the courses are the units responsible for providing the foundations to guide and support the research groups. They are planned to be adherent and related to the research lines but also integrated among them. In attending the courses, the student will have in-depth and legitimate training using modern and flexible methodologies. The students will be taught with the best models, theories, and advances in science. Every course is connected to at least one research group and updated with new knowledge at each offer. The courses’ planning and availability are guided by the needs highlighted by the ongoing research and their respective research groups.

As the operational core of the entire program, the courses can be divided into three areas: 1) training courses with high added value; 2) professional practice and applicability; and 3) scientific development and personal improvement.

The PPGOLD student will follow 33 formative credits, distributed among 11 courses with three credits each. These credits are divided into six compulsory credits, 15 optional ones chosen according to the student’s research line or suggested by his/her advisor in alignment with the research project, interest, and function performed for the dissertation. It remains as compulsory nine credits of thematic seminars and three in professional practice.

MASTERS

In Brazil, professional master’s programs are dedicated to increasing the market competencies instead of those directed to academic formation. This initiative is essential to create a competitive workforce, especially in southern Brazil, where we have many transformation and agricultural industries and services sectors. Therefore, Universidade Federal do Paraná and the Departamento de Administração Geral e Aplicada (DAGA) joined efforts to launch the master’s Program in Management of Organizations, Leadership, and Decision (PPGOLD).

The profile of the professionals that PPGOLD intend to form:

“An individual with in-depth knowledge about the management and leadership capable of transforming their reality through decisions based on science, supported by the professionalism and ethical values, pursuing development and social justice.”

To help fulfill the mission of training for excellence, PPGOLD structures its didactic actions through three lines of research: Operations and Decisions Systems (OSD), Decisions in Finance and Financial Markets (DFMF), and Organizational Competencies and Decision (COD). The central axis, integrating and guiding the didactic structure of PPGOLD, is decision-making. The student’s formation is done through disciplines, research groups, and research lines around this central axis.

The PPGOLD student will follow 33 formative credits, distributed over 11 courses with three credits each. These credits are divided into six compulsory credits, 15 optional ones chosen and nine credits of thematic seminars, and three in professional practice.

The set of courses can be divided into two parts. The first is composed of the disciplines to give coherence to the themes that name the program and provide instrumental and operational techniques to research. Therefore, it is mandatory for all PPGOLD students, regardless of the line they follow. These courses are: ‘Scientific Methodology’ and ‘Management of Organizations, Leadership, and Decision”.

The second set of courses consists of five optional courses. They were designed to provide in-depth, and quality aligned with both the mission and the profile of the graduate of PPGOLD, combined with the clarity that they need to support the research topics addressed in the research groups. Thus, this set of courses provide flexibility in the students’ academic training and deliver adequate support to each line of research.

Each discipline has a workload of 45 hours, representing three (3) credits.

To finalize the Masters at PPGOLD, the student must write and publicly defend a written work (in Brazil is called a dissertation) about organizations and a theme connected to decision making. This work is done under orientation. If approved, the student receives a master’s diploma provided by one of the most traditional and qualified universities in Brazil: Universidade Federal do Paraná. To validate the certification abroad, the student must fulfill the obligations and rules of his/her own country.
